Can a Christian live with a muslim husband with muslim wife? – Pakistan Forum

Since that time many parishes in the Synods and the Archdiocese have held prayer services for unity and have fostered conversation among clergy and laity on further implications of the Covenant. Among the more important and more common pastoral concerns of the ecumenical relations of our two communities is the marriage between Lutheran and Catholic spouses. This is such an important reality for the whole Christian community, as well as for the happiness of couples and families, that it has been studied by many in the international dialogue of unity between Lutherans and Catholics. With a mutual concern for Church unity and the unity of marriage, two years ago we asked the members of the Lutheran-Catholic Covenant Commission to develop a guide for couples who are preparing for marriage in our two traditions. The Commission, constituted equally of members of the two synods and the archdiocese, has completed the guide; it has been reviewed by the proper ecumenical commissions and by other official bodies of each of our churches. Recommendations, suggestions and insights have come from many members and offices of our communities and the result is this document, which we hope will be a source of help to all those who assist in marriage preparation. But most especially we hope and pray that it will be a source of help to those who are to enter into Lutheran Catholic marriage. As we mutually affirm and encourage the use of these guidelines, we pray to the Holy Spirit, the Counselor, to pour forth all gifts upon the Church and we pray for all those who enter into Lutheran-Catholic marriages. The Reverend Lowell O. The Reverend David W.

The activities involved in finding a suitable marriage partner has never been easy, but the climate of modern society with its constantly changing rules makes it even more difficult. The difficulty often consists in trying to figure out how to apply these principles to our present situation. I want to present to parents some rules, supports, and habits to encourage in their teenage children who are experiencing their attraction to the opposite sex in a new and heightened way.

Some years back I had the pleasure of helping a young woman who had lived with her boyfriend for three years and had a baby. Their relationship had deteriorated to the point where she had to find a new place to live. Her sister had taken her in temporarily until she could find a place. She began to attend Mass regularly and go to confession fairly often, perhaps monthly. She prayed about 15 minutes a day and she wanted to live in a state of grace.

She had a few Catholic friends, but most of her friends were where she was three years before: not church-going, not pursuing virtue, not praying, and certainly not chaste.

When I thought about it, I had to agree. Building a relationship with someone whose Christian life is very different to our own, and with whom we may disagree profoundly on theological issues, can be very challenging. A lot depends on our previous experiences of church good and bad , and what Christian tradition feels most authentic to us. For instance, if you hate noisy worship, find succour in liturgy and ritual, and see prayer as a strictly private practice, then you may struggle to find a meeting point with someone who expects to pray out loud together every day, go to praise-a-thons and lead a homegroup.

Some couples make it work. Another couple I know go to different churches. We sometimes disagree, but we try to look at the Bible and work out what it really says. We almost always end up agreeing. The key is to first decide which issues are fundamental beliefs, and which boil down to church culture. While some differences may be impossible to negotiate, it would be a tragedy to miss out on a good marriage just because of the trappings of church styles.
